Counties Profoundly Disappointed in General Assembly’s Actions on 911 Funding

Our state leaders have failed our mutual constituents by continuing the trend of putting more pressure on the backs of county property taxpayers to fund services like 911.
Pennsylvania counties are highly disappointed in the actions by the General Assembly this week. Though the legislature has prevented the worst-case scenario of allowing the 911 funding system to sunset, their vote to amend language in HB 1300, and raise the monthly surcharge to just $1.95 – and not until next March– falls far short of properly funding one of the most essential services in the Commonwealth.
This small increase does not, and will not, keep the 911 funding system even with inflation rates, much less the investments actually needed for this critical public safety resource, and puts the long-term stability of 911 funding into peril.
